With the holiday season quickly approaching, millions of Americans are projected to travel far and wide to see their loved ones. Even though 2021 has been one hectic year with the global pandemic still happening, a large chunk of people are still expected to travel by plane or by car. With this large increase in people taking the road, it’s guaranteed that there would be more accidents.
This has been a stressful year so far and planning to spend the holiday season safely is the last bit of stress anyone needs right now. That’s why I’ve put together this guide to ensure that your holiday season is as safe and fun as possible. Utilizing the outdoors for gatherings and practicing social distancing rules will be the recurring theme of the holidays this year.
Why Are Holidays on the Road So Dangerous?
A few different reasons could explain why the holiday season can be so dangerous for people on the road, often accompanied by a number of injuries and fatalities. The most straight-forward reason is the fact that there are just way more people using the roads during these times, causing the roads to become more congested, and, ultimately, driving the chances of accidents up.
Another crucial reason behind the holidays being deemed dangerous for road goers is the fact that alcohol consumption is increased during these days. As people drink more, their ability to function properly on a road with many others around is hindered, causing accidents and injuries. Because of that, combining alcohol with driving is a recipe for disaster.
How Can You Stay Safe This Holiday Season?
I reached out to a law firm to get their best tips on how to stay safe this holiday season:
Stay Rested & Drive Safe
The holiday season can be a stressful time for a lot of people. Make sure you’re getting ample amounts of rest to keep you focused and alert while driving. Additionally, make sure you follow all safety guidelines on the highway and avoid distractions that’ll take your eyes away from the road.
Do Not Drink & Drive
If your celebration plans this year involve any sort of alcohol consumption, we urge you not to even consider driving. Make plans ahead of time for a designated driver and keep yourself, your family, and your community safe. Drinking and driving is NEVER a good idea.
Follow CDC & State Guidelines
With the coronavirus pandemic still in effect, it’s essential to check the CDC & state guidelines on holiday gatherings to make sure you’re following all the necessary rules to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Large 50+ person parties may be very questionable at these times but a small, intimate holiday dinner with family is absolutely doable.
Try your best to make your guests feel comfortable with any precautions you’re taking this holiday and remember to have fun and stay safe.
Have A Safe & Happy Holiday!
I truly hope that all of you have a happy and healthy holiday with no issues or injuries whatsoever. I urge you to use the tips provided to keep yourself, your family, and your community safe. Remember to use common sense and caution as you navigate those tough times.
